University of Essex: Essex Law Clinic

Essex Law Clinic at Essex University benefits the Essex community by offering free initial advice about legal problems. Advice is available in areas such as family law, homelessness, immigration, employment, equality, consumer law and welfare benfits law. We do not cover crime, tax and debt. We are not a solicitors firm, nor a substitute for legal advice. But we aim to provide the same high standard of service expected in the practice of law. Services are provided by law students who receive training and are supervised by staff.

Who can use this service?

Members of the public living or working in Essex get free initial advice. Our aim is to help those who cannot obtain legal advice in other ways, or afford to pay for a lawyer.

How are services delivered?

We operate on an appointment only basis. Meetings take place mostly via Zoom. To book an appointment send a blank email to lawclinic@essex.ac.uk You will get an automatic reply with explanations about how we work and the form to return to book an appointment.
