Tax Help for Older People

We are a UK charity for people over 60 on lower incomes who need support with their tax. If you are under 60 and require tax help then our partner charity TaxAid may be able to help. Have you received a tax letter that you do not understand? Are you unsure whether your tax is correct? Are you struggling with tax surrounding your pension? We will work with you on your tax problem, and help you work with HMRC to resolve it.

Our dedicated and expert tax advisers will listen to you and help you every step of the way. Our service specialises in helping people over 60 deal with tax issues that can arise as you retire or plan to retire for this age group.

We can help you with:

Personal tax queries
Tax issues surrounding pensions, pension lump sums, etc
Tax issues following bereavement
PAYE coding checks
Self-assessment issues
Form filing
Understanding letters from HMRC
Understanding allowances, such as marriage allowance

It may be that you need some reassurance and peace of mind. We are here to support you with your tax problem, whether big or small.

Our service is nationwide. You can receive tax support by phoning our helpline, we are open Monday – Friday from 9 am – 5 pm except for bank holidays. Who can use this service?

We can help you if you are struggling with a tax problem or query and can’t afford to pay for professional help or if you have no other way of getting help.

We ask that you first try to sort out the problem with HMRC but if you can’t, and you have an income of about £20,000 a year or £385 a week (before tax), we can help. We may also be able to help you if you have debts of more than 25% of your annual income or if you are facing other hardships — such as physical or mental health problems, disabilities, domestic violence, bereavement, homelessness, or anything else that stops you from getting help.
