Sophie's Fund

An unexpected change, such as illness, job loss, rent rise or relationship breakdown can tip people over the edge financially; in this situation a small grant can sometimes make all the difference. Sophie’s Fund can help cover the cost of necessities such as fresh food, kitchen equipment, gas or electricity top-ups, travel to appointments, medicines, nappies, clothing and emergency accommodation.

Further info

Funds are limited, therefore Trustees will prioritise people who have already explored all other sources of financial assistance - for example by checking benefit entitlements and applying to the Essential Living Fund or other local charities where appropriate.

It may not be possible to approve all applications.  Each application is considered on its individual merits.

Grants are usually up to the value of £50, but larger sums will be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Who can use this service?

Anyone who is struggling to pay for everyday needs and who lives in Uttlesford or surrounding villages.

How are services delivered?

Applicants are strongly encouraged to access the fund via Uttlesford Citizens Advice as Advisers can also check benefit entitlements, identify other sources of financial assistance, offer advice on debt and budgeting and help with housing options.
